Volunteer
Do you have "one day a week - three hours a day" to spare to be part of the miracle at ESM? That's all it takes to be a volunteer at ESM and we need you!
ESM would not be able to fulfill its mission without the incredible dedication, passion, and commitment of our volunteers. Approximately 130 volunteers work directly with clients or on special projects, helping to keep administrative costs low for the organization. But, we are always looking for additional volunteers. Come join those who are already serving and experience the miracles that happen at ESM almost daily!
Volunteer opportunities include:
Jobs Program Associate
Assist clients with job searching and resume writing.
Assist clients with Internet job search.
Provide bus and gas vouchers to qualified clients for transportation to an interview or new job.
Provide interview-appropriate or job-appropriate clothing and tools to qualified clients.
Enter client information into ESM client database.
Housing Program Associate
Interview and qualify clients to confirm program eligibility.
Approve or decline clients for rent or utilities assistance.
Enter client information into ESM client database.
Direct Services Program Associate
Interview clients to determine needs.
Provide clothing, qualify clients for commodities, personal hygiene items, monitor shower requests.
Sign clients in at the Front Desk
Enter client information into ESM client database.
Pantry Associate
Help unload donations and stock shelves.
Fill pantry and commodity orders.
Must be physically able to lift a minimum of one paper grocery bag filled with food.
Administrative Associate - on call
Help prepare mailings by stuffing envelopes, labeling, etc.
File documents
Data entry
Volunteers commit to a particular three-hour shift, Monday through Friday, during our regular client hours, 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can choose the department in which you would like to work and all training is provided.
Special Projects:
These projects are at varying hours, different from our normal client and/or business hours.
Festival of Trees Special Event - on call / month of November. In November, ESM holds is main fundraising event called the "Festival of Trees." We need a wide range of skills and a large number of volunteers to help make this event a success. Visit the Festival of Trees page for more information about this event.
Thanksgiving Food Baskets / Christmas Food Baskets. Each year, ESM provides families with food baskets to make a full Thanksgiving or Christmas meal. Volunteers are needed the week prior to the distribution to make up the baskets as well as during the give-way itself to help qualify clients and to give the baskets away.
Men's Wearhouse Suit Giveway: In the fall, ESM partners with the local Men's Wearhouse stores to collect and then give-away suits to men who need appropriate business attire but who can't afford it. Volunteers are needed to help sort and size the donated suits prior to the event as well as on the day of the event to act as "personal shoppers."

In response to the Gospel, ESM promotes self-sufficiency and restores dignity by providing food, medicine, housing, job placement, educational programs, and spiritual encouragement.
ESM provides a collaborative Christian response to low income and homeless people in crisis.
ESM will comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations prohibiting discrimination.
